Security preparations at presidential inaugurations have been getting progressively more fortified since the Bush years. True to form, at President Trumps inauguration, there were even more barriers and barricades that went up before January 20th. This time though there was also a peculiar, pope-mobile-like viewing platform with bulletproof glass right in front of the Whitehouse and almost all of Pennsylvania avenue blocked off by a tall, chain link fence. The inauguration and the following days saw more protests at an inauguration than at any time since 1973 when Richard Nixon was inaugurated for a second time. For a period of just over a month that chain-link fence kept protesters away from the WhiteHouse as protest after protest rolled through the city. During that time, the fence accumulated stickers and graffiti on its few flat surfaces. This photo essay documents what was present until just before the fence was taken down March 8, 2017.
